Details

ST4717 STOKE SUB HAMDON CP HAM HILL ROAD (East side) 6/305 No. 63 (Reform Cottage) - GV II Detached cottage. Dated 1836, extended 1857, Ham stone rear-ashlar facade, roughly cut and squared to sides; plain clay tiled roof between stepped coped gables; brick chimney stacks. Two storeys, 3 bays. Plain mullioned 3- light windows with slight chamfers to bays 2 and 3; large 4-pane sash windows bay 1, with l857 date plaque to right of upper window, and between the windows to upper bays 2/3 a second plaque reading 'Reform Cottage 1836': to lower bay 3 a lean-to projection with ornamental gable over open porch, to beaded doorway in main wall. Interior not seen. One of a group of small houses close to the ham stone quarries, and least certainly a stonemason's house.
