Details
The following building shall be added:- PITTON AND FARLEY FARLEY SU22NW 676-1/10/10004 Farley Primary School GV II
School. 1867, by George Aitchison. Built of red brick with hipped Welsh slate roofs and brick stack. Rectangular plan with schoolmasters's house to right of front. One-storey schoolroom has broad bracketted eaves; small-paned windows, set in 3 semi-circular arches to left and in smaller opening under flat arch to right of half-glazed doors set in moulded and slightly-projecting architrave with outer brick moulding and splayed cornice rising to eaves; moulded cill and impost courses. 2-storey master's house has broad bracketted eaves; gable facing to left, with pilasters dividing 3-light window with flat brick arches over 6/6-pane sashes; similar arch over 1/1-pane ground-floor sash; set back to right is lean-to porch with shouldered arch to doorway set below two 4/4-pane sashes under similar arches. Rear includes similar arched windows to schoolroom and glazing bar sashes to master's house. Interior includes original joinery. A carefully detailed and massed composition by a noteworthy local architect. Aitchison was also the architect of the primary school at East Knoyle (qv).
