II

Farmhouse. C16 or early C17, with later alterations and C19 facade. Timber framed. Front elevation red and grey brick in Flemish bond. Left gable end older red brick in a mixed bond to ground floor, red brick in Flemish bond above. Exposed framing with painted brick infilling to both floors of right gable end; gunstock-jowled posts, broadly-spaced studs, lacing pieces forming three panels to storey- height, and almost straight tension braces. Plain tile roof. Lobby- entry plan of 4 timber-framed bays, two to left and one to right of stack bay. 2 storeys. Boxed eaves. Hipped roof, with gablet to right. Multiflue brick ridge stack towards right end. Irregular fenestration of 2 three-light casements; one to left of centre and one to right end. Boarded door behind brick porch with gabled plain tile roof, under stack. Red and grey brick lean-to with plain tile roof to front elevation of left end bay. Timber-framed rear lean-to. Short two-storey red and grey brick rear wing to left, with gabled plain tile roof. Interior: only partly inspected. Front elevation of left end bay, visible from lean-to, has jetty, and mortices for framing and for four-light diamond mullion window. Ground floor left end room ceiled except for axial beam morticed for continuous partition with doorhead towards right end. Chamfered cross beam to rear half of room. Chamfered axial beam and joists, with evidence for front jetty, to left-central bay. Brick fireplace with wooden bressumer.
