Details

1. WHITECHAPEL ROAD E1 4431 (South Side) No l18 (Royal Oak Public House) TQ 3481 15/520 II 2. C19, second half. Ebulliently Victorian. Red brick with white stone dressings, slate roof. 3 storeys with centre portion of 4 storeys with vertical rusticated stone bands between. Each wing has one window of 3 lights with semi-circular head to each light. Centre part has 3 separate round headed windows. All 1st floor windows have shallow arches. All sashes, stone architraves with some mouldings. 2nd floor windows with elaborate cast iron balconies on decorated corbels. Decorated band between 1st and 2nd floors. Centre top storey window of 5 lights set in semi-circular head with decorated spandrel motifs above. Figures as pilasters to sides under cornice and pediment. Side wings have blocking course above cornice with cast iron balustrade. Ground floor has corbelled fascia board and carriage entrance to Vine Court under eastern end of building.
