c1870-80 three bay symmetrical 3 storey front to works range behind, a more formal
composition than usual. Built of stock brick with office/display workshop windows
flanking double doors, framed by broad stucco pilasters with cornice entablature
broken by central hatch rank. The windows have slender wrought iron bars with
fleur-de-lys spikes. Upper floors have segmental arched iron framed windows flanking
central round arched keystoned hatch rank with bull nosed white brick reveals,
reaching up to base of low stucco pediment-gable. Flanking sections of panelled
parapet with coping. Interior has timber floors on cast iron columns. The hatch
doors are panelled with small pane glazing and the lunette formed by arch is
similarly glazed. A good example of one of the smaller warehouses in the shadow
of the West India Dock, with built in retail outlet on ground floor, a now rare
feature.
Group value with West India Docks.
