1. MARKET PLACE 1594 (Cheese Market) No 29 (British Legion) SU 1430 SW 1/307 28.2.52. GV II 2. In yard behind street frontage, access through Nos 31 and 31A qv, circa 1680 house of Sir Samuel Eyre. 2 storeys, attic and semi-basement. Colourwashed brick. Projecting rusticated brick quoins. 1st floor stringcourse. Deep moulded and coved eaves cornice. Steep hipped old tile roof. 2 dormers. 5 windows on 1st floor, flush framed sashes, glazing bars intact. 2 tripartite sash windows on ground floor and central door altered, blocked in by modern brick extension. Formerly there was a flat hood on richly carved acanthus scroll brackets over door. Basement windows blocked or altered. In north wall, at half landing level, an oak mullioned window. Interior has good staircase, closed string, turned balusters, square newels. lst floor north- west room has moulded panelling and fireplace. The semi-basement has reused heavy Cl5 moulded beams.
Nos 25 to 32 (consec) and the Market Hall form a group.
