5/17 Hazeley House
- - II Late C18, and 1908. 2 storeys (and basement). Symmetrical (north) front of 2:1:2 windows with (set back) on the west a lower wing (1908) of 5 windows. Slate roof, hipped. Red brickwork, with stone dressings of the later period, Flemish bond, 1st floor band, rubbed flat arches, plinth. The parapet (1908) has recesses above the windows, a moulded coping (lowered above recesses), raised in the centre as a flattened ogee form: a fully-moulded stone cornice. Sashes in reveals. The large classical Edwardian doorcase is a fully-detailed Ionic order, with pilasters, a fanlight within a square frame, double doors. Inside, there are folding shutters, 2 original fireplaces and 2 fine Adam fireplaces (introduced in recent times). The Edwardian alterations and additions are in matching style. There is a small wrought-iron entrance gate, with open-work piers, where the approach drive enters the grounds.
