GV II

Large house with adjoining cottages and outbuildings. Early-mid C19 with parts of outbuildings of late C17-early C18. Plastered rubble with some cob in outbuildings; rubble stacks with brick chimney shafts; slate roofs. Gable-end, 2- room double depth house facing south with central staircase plan; 2 north facing 1- room plan cottages to right (east) and L-shaped stables and outbuilding adjoining to left (west) returning round rear courtyard. 2 storeys throughout. 3-window front to house with stucco clasping pilaster strips and plinth. Central 6-panel door with early C20 Portland stone porch with plain piers, block caps and moulded entablature. 16-pane sashes either side and central first floor 12-pane sash. Moulded cornice with dentils. Rear elevation has tall round-headed sash to stairs and flanking 16-pane sashes. Interior includes original plasterwork and joinery. 3-window north front to cottage of 12-pane sashes. West wing of outbuildings (facing courtyard to east) has loading bay at left end and 4-light pine mullioned window with iron stanchion bars and leaded glass (probably C18) over large double doors. Another C18 4-light window with leaded glass in south face. Interior includes probably reused chamfered and step-stopped beams. Roof of A-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars. C19 stables with corrugated iron roof to rear of outbuildings contain original stalls and fittings.
