Model estate cottage. c.1855. By T. C. Hine for T. B. T. Hildyard. Brick with ashlar dressings. Patterned plain tile roof. Chamfered plinth, half-round brick eaves, pedimented gables. 2 external side wall stacks. 2 storeys, 3 unequal bays. T-plan. Windows are mainly C20 mullioned casements in chamfered ashlar reveals. North east front has central projecting gabled bay with hipped canted bay window. To left, a casement. To right, in return angle, hipped porch with brick base and turned wood balustrade. Above, casement and to right, glazed quatrefoil. North west front has to right, 3 light casement and to its right, single bay rear addition, altered mid C20, with a casement. Above, a casement. Rear lean-to has central door and flat roofed single storey late C20 additions each side. The design of this model estate cottage won first prize in a competition held in 1848 by The Society for Improving the Condition of the Labouring Classes, whose president was Prince Albert.
