GV II
House. C1600, altered mid C19. Coursed, dressed gritstone, stone slate roof. T-shaped plan; 2-storey, 3-bay front with lower 2-storey, 4-bay rear wing. Mid C19 front: large groins; Ionic open-sided porch with plain entablature is offset to left and encloses part-glazed and panelled door with overlight in moulded surround under Tudor-arched head; flanking windows have tall. 4-pane sashes with projecting sills and plan lintels. 1st floor shorter windows in same style. Shaped stone gutter brackets to hipped roof with corniced end stacks. Left return: bay 1 breaks forward and has 4-pane sash within blocked square-headed, quoined opening; sash with glazing bars above. 3 bays to right have central panelled door with overlight under probably Cl9 Tudor-arched lintel; C20 casement on left and large sash with glazing bars on right. lst floor windows as bay 1. Ashlar gable copings on left two corniced ridge stacks; margin-glazed, round-heading stair window to end of front range on right. Right return: C1600 mullioned window of 9 round-headed lights with cavetto-moulded surrounds, 2 king mullions and hoodmould; matching 2-light windows to right partly masked by later addition.
1st floor: three sashes with glazing bars on left of 2-light mullioned window. Gable of wing is roughcast but has 3-light mullioned window under hoodmould. Interior: not fully inspected. Appears mostly mid-late C19 with round-arched marble fireplace to front-right room, ceiling in 3 panels with decorative roses. Stone-flagged floor in space lit by C1600 window. Wooden staircase with turned newel, plain balustrade and curved handrail. The irregulerities of Masonry suggest major rebuilding which incorporates some walling of a former cross-wing in the present front range.
