Details
GRAYSWOOD ROAD 1. 5393 (East Side) SU 9033 SE 2/38 Kemnal II* 2. 1888 by R. Norman Shaw. Vernacular revival style, producing the effect of an old house added to over the years. Right wing in C16 style with jettied 1st floor on return, gable end to road oversailing on solid brackets. Tile hung above, brick below, steep tiled roof. Two-storey brick centre section and one-storey and attic left. bay with catslide sweeping down over projecting ground floor; and dormers above. Very tall brick chimneys. The echo here is of an older building with brick re-casing; and a smal1 stuccoed section in the inner right angle faithfully suggests a Jacobean addition. Leaded casements. Drawings for this house are in the Royal Academy collection.
