2. 2-storey 3-window building altered late C18 and early C19. Modern projecting public house front with rendered facade and Welsh slate roof. Covered way into yard to right with Inn signboard over. First floor. Red painted tile hanging. 3 sets of C19 casement windows. Moulded eaves board and bracketed gutter. Ridge tile roof with one end hipped. The whole elevational treatment masks a C16 or older framed structure. Rear elevation early C19 red brick with blue headers. Sash windows with glazing bars. Roof ridges at right angles to road. Inside old bar fittings including rare pink Wedgwood beer handles. Historic Associations. The Grasshopper Inn takes its name from the grasshopper incorporated in the crest of the Gresham family who owned the Manor of Westerham from the time of Henry VIII till the late C17.
Nos 1 to 3 (consec) and the Grasshopper Public House form a group.
