Terrace of 19 houses forming the northern half of a crescent.
Now occupied as a residential training centre and a hotel.
c1809-11. Designed and built by James Burton. Darkened stock
brick (evidence of tuck pointing) with rusticated stucco
ground floors and stucco cornice at 3rd floor level.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys and basements. 2 and 3 windows. Centre 4
and end 3 houses projecting. Round-arched doorways, (where
unaltered) with reeded jambs, cornice-heads, fanlights (some
patterned) and panelled doors. Nos 27 & 45 doorways on returns
(4 windows, 3 blind) to Mabledon Place and Burton Place with
prostyle Doric porticoes. Ground floor windows round-arched,
those on the projecting bays in shallow, round-arched
recesses. Gauged brick flat arches to recessed sash windows.
1st floor on projecting bays, casements with geometrically
patterned glazing to top light. All 1st floor windows, except
the right end projecting bay, with continuous cast-iron
balconies. Parapets. No.45 with single storey, 3-window,
stucco extension on the return. Articulated by pilasters
carrying entablature surmounted by parapet, the centre panel
balustraded.
INTERIORS: retain some original features.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached cast-iron railings with baluster
finials to areas.
