Garden structure. C.1836. Irregular composition of ashlar and rubble sandstone, roughly rectangular in shape, and built at the intersection of 2 earth embankments. North face with deep arched recess to west. To north face flight of steps, to west face. The flanking walls bearing sculpture, flight of steps to upper level extending eastwards and projecting wall to east face, terminating at ashlar pier which forms plinth to urn. HISTORY: This C18 farmhouse, extended in the C19, was the home of Thomas Bland (1799-1856), a self-taught sculptor, painter and composer. He created this garden of three terraces which opened in 1837 to commemorate Queen Victoria's accession to the throne. The garden contains a large proportion of Thomas Bland's known works including animals, urns and figures, some in classical and others in modern dress. This unique garden is included on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.
