SX5455NE FORE STREET, Plympton St Maurice 740-1/50/469 (North side) 01/05/75 No.4 South Neuk and attached railings

GV II

Town house with later shop. Late C18. Stucco on probable rubble with rusticated segmental arches; steep dry slate roof with moulded eaves cornice; 2 hipped dormers with slate-hung cheeks and late C19 or C20 6-pane horned sashes; brick axial stack towards left and end stacks. Double-depth plan. 2 storeys plus attic; 5-window range, probably symmetrical until shopfront added. Possibly original 12-pane hornless sashes. Central pilastered doorway with moulded entablature and 6-panel door set back within reveals. Early C20 shopfront on the left with moulded mullions and transoms and moulded cornice above a pierced metal fascia; overlight and 3-panel door with round-arched top panels, on the left. INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be of interest. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: plinth right of house doorway surmounted by wrought-iron railings with turned finials.
