GV II

Two town houses, formerly part of a row; now offices. c1830-45; altered. Chisel-dressed sandstone ashlar, slate roof. Double-depth, each house single-fronted, with individual back extensions. 2 storeys over cellars, 2+2 windows, with a moulded gutter cornice; doorways to the right, with enriched architraves including reeded jambs, geometrical patterned friezes, and cornices on foliated consoles; windows with raised sills and plain surrounds, those at No.74 sashed without glazing bars and those at No.72 with C20 top-hung casements. Ridge chimney stack at junction, double chimney stack at left gable and single at right-hand gable, all corniced. Rear: back extensions at basement and ground-floor levels; round-headed stair-windows with small panes and intersecting diagonal glazing bars in the heads. INTERIOR not inspected. Forms group with Nos 85 & 85A (Toll House, qv), and boundary wall to canal warehouse yard (qv) on opposite side of road.
