1879/3/10015 Barn at Brooklands Farm

Barn. Dated 1745. Timber-framed with original plank walls, part-overlapped and part-butted, and with traces of former bitumen; on plinth of red brick and rubblestone; all clad in corrugated iron. Hipped corrugated-iron roof. Fully-aisled 3-bay barn with central opposed cart-entries, that on south-west side with hipped midstrey (rear entry reported to have had midstrey formerly). Doors missing and rear cart-entry with corrugated-iron across. Interior: timber frame has jowelled wall-posts straight-braced to wall-plate and intermediate wall studs; arcade posts with square-cut jowels carried by timber plates on brick plinths (some replaced), with straight braces to arcade plates and tie-beams; queen-post roof trusses with collars, principal rafters reducing above collars, and rafters (no ridge-piece). Threshing-floor north-east arcade-post has scribed geometric pattern with initials and date, "IF 1745". A good-quality mid-C18 aisled barn which retains its original timber frame and plank walls.
