Cottage north of
Orchardleigh
GV II
House. C17 with C18-C20 alterations. Rendered timber-frame with pantile roof and brick stack. Render lined to imitate ashlar. South gable-end faced with brick. 3-unit lobby-entry plan with off-centre axial stack to right. Single storey and attic; 3-window range of C20 2- and 3-light casements. Door to right opposite stack. Pair of 2-light gabled dormers above.
INTERIOR. Left service end partition survives with service rooms divided into two. The studwork is not visible. Chamfered bridging beam to hall. Lobby opposite door with winder stair in original position. Parlour has three transverse chamfered bridging beams. The upper floor reveals evidence of the timber-frame with braced jowled corner posts and gable-end tie beams in situ. Evidence of two former mullion windows. Probably C18 butt-purlin roof.
Forms a group with Orchardleigh (qv) to the south.
