24/10/51 Statue of a Queen at north end of
Queen Square Gardens
II
Statue. c1775. Lead statue of a crowned queen in royal robes,
originally holding a sceptre (now missing), to the left of
which a baluster with tasselled cushion. On a Portland stone
pedestal originally inscribed "Virtus et tutamen". The statue
probably represents Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, but
may possibly be that of Queen Anne or Mary II.
