839-1/11/194 Vauxhall Bridge
II
Twin-track railway and footpath bridge over River Bure. c1850,
strengthened and footpath section added c1900. Original parts
wrought-iron, additions of steel. Rusticated stone abutments.
Construction in the form of three c1900 bow-spring lattice
girders and suspension rods carrying three c1850 longitudinal
beams. Lower bow-spring supports the footpath addition.
HISTORY: the bridge was originally authorised by the Norfolk
Railway (Yarmouth Extension) October 1847. It was strengthened
and extended c1900 and thereafter carried rail and tram
traffic and pedestrians. This is a rare survival of a
wrought-iron railway bridge with significant early steel
strengthening.
