GV II
National school, now theatre wardrobe. Dated 1836. Flemish bond red brick. Welsh slate roof with pedimental gable ends. Truncated brick stack at NW gable end and later lateral stack on rear NE. PLAN: Rectangular on plan, with schoolrooms on ground and first floors. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay SW front with large cambered arch windows, with multi-pane cast-iron frames with pivot opening lights at centre; ground floor windows replaced with wooden mullion-transom frames in circa late C19; doorway on right with overlight and panelled door, and C20 brick porch on left with flat roof. Similar cast-iron window on SE end with large sandstone plaque in gable above, inscribed: NATIONAL SCHOOL. Erected by Voluntary Contributions, AD 1836, S. Butler DD vicar, T. Tidmarsh, R. Draper churchwardens'. Sash windows with glazing bars on NW end and at rear NE, and another multi-pane cast-iron window on first floor at rear NE. INTERIOR not inspected.
