GV II
Villa, now offices, with attached railings, piers and wall. c1820-30, built for HN Tryne. Brick with stucco facades, slate roof; iron railings, ashlar piers and brick wall. Double depth plan with central hallway and service range to rear. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 3 + 1 first-floor windows, right angle curved. Stucco detailing includes plinth, first-floor band and raised panel to first-floor, centre; frieze, cornice and blocking course. 6/6 sashes, those to right angle are curved on section. First floor has blind openings to first and third openings, ground floor has blind opening at left. Basement has 3/6 sashes. Central entrance: flight of roll-edged steps to distyle Ionic porch with architrave, frieze and cornice with blocking course, within a 5-panel door with side-lights and fanlight with decorative glazing bars. Right return has 4 first-floor windows. Mainly 6/6 sashes, taller to ground floor. Centre and right end pilasters. INTERIOR: retains original features including embellished cornices and ceiling friezes to some ground-floor rooms, otherwise not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: arrowhead railings and gate with urn finials to stanchions abut house to left for approx 4m to end pier, square on plan with incised panels to shaft, band, frieze with incised lozenge and pyramidal caps. Low brick wall with stone coping extends for approx 20m to similar boundary pier. HISTORICAL NOTE: shown on Merrett's Map of 1834. A similar design to Greville Lodge, No.36 Gratton Road (qv).
