II
Public house c1830, with C20 alterations and additions. Red brick
with Portland cement render. Artificial slate roof, 2 brick stacks
and a rendered gable stack. 3 Storey. Rusticated ground floor. Main
with central double panel doors with overlight and pilaster surround
with entablature above. Eitherside 2 plain sashes with etched glass
panels. Above 3 very tall glazing bar sashes with moulded surrounds
and continuous cill band, above a wooden name board with above again
3 glazing bar sashes with moulded surrounds. Chamfered corner is
plain with a single C20 casement. Park Street front has a narrow
central plain sash which was formerly a doorway, flanked by single
plane sashes with etched glass panes. Above a small inserted central
sash, with a glazing bar sash to the right and a blocked window to the
left, both with moulded surrounds, above a wooden name board and above
similar windows. To the right a single storey C20 addition. This is
the only surviving example of a building covered with Joseph
Asp din's patent Portland cement.
