School chapel. 1928-31; by C. H. Biddulph-Pinchard. Irregular bond red brick with stone dressings. Flat roof concealed behind parapet.
PLAN: Rectangular single-cell chapel with altar at the west end and choir stalls and organ in gallery over entrance vestibule at east end.
Perpendicular Tudor style.
EXTERIOR: Six-bay north and south sides with 3-light Perpendicular traceried 4-centred arch windows with buttresses between with tall crocketed pinnacles; moulded stone plinth weathering and string below parapet. The west [liturgical east] end has a larger 5-light 2-centred arch window with reticulated tracery, flanked by buttresses and a statue niche above surmounted by a stone cross. At east [liturgical west] end a Tudor arch door in a moulded stone frame, with a stone plaque above and flanked by iron lamps.
INTERIOR: Richly decorated interior with finely traceried carved wooden wall panels with elaborately decorated canopies made of moulded plaster, all painted and guilded, the panels with names of old boys killed in the First World War. Similarly decorated galleried choir stalls and organ loft over entrance and canopied reredos. Carved stone altar. Carved bench ends and carved traceried stall fronts. Roof has series of carved and moulded tie-beams on corbels, supporting a panelled roof with moulded ribs, all painted and guilded. The carving by F.J. Hunt of Henlade, Taunton.
