BARRACKS PASSAGE (South east side)
Nos.1 and 2, The Trotting Horse Building
(Formerly Listed as: WYLE COP, Nos.71, 72 AND 73 including Nos. 1 and 2, Barrack's Passage (to rear))

GV
I
House, later inn, unoccupied at time of survey. Late C15. Timber-framed extensively restored, with plain tiled roof. Built as rear range of premises on Wyle Cop (Nos 71-73 Wyle Cop (qv)).
EXTERIOR: three storeys, five window range with slightly canted plan. Timber-framing in square panels to ground floor all renewed, close studding below a middle rail, square panels above to first floor. Square panels and middle rail in second storey. Each storey is jettied out, the principal bays marked by brackets which carry the jetty. Three doors flanked by casement windows of two and three lights to ground floor, three- and four-light casement windows above, renewed.
INTERIOR: crown post roof with a series of different truss types, and different constructional detail in each of the six bays. Variations in truss type largely relate to bracing detail: three trusses have arched braces to tie beam, and curved lateral bracing to the crown post, and there is one intermediate truss with raking queen struts and no crown post. Trenched purlins in parts of roof only, and ridge piece also not continuous. Jowled corner posts and some arched bracing in long walls.
