Almshouses, later converted into flats. Built in 1860 for the Saddlers' Company and originally known as the Honnor Almshouses; converted to additional flats late C20. Red brick laid in Flemish bond to facade, wi1h stuccoed details, and London stock to rear; slate roof. Neo-Jacobean style.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 10-window range to east front. East front articulated by 5 full-height window bays terminating in shaped gables with obelisk pinnacles. Centre bay wider and without the pinnacle. In gable heads are shal1ow rectangular (centre bay) or arched niches (remaining bays). Fenestration of paired 2/2 horned sashes to each floor in the narrow bays, doubled in the centre bay. Each sash separated by an ovolo-moulded king mullion. Smaller side sashes to each bay. One similar window over each of the 2 symmetrically-placed doorways. Door surrounds with semi-circular arch on pilasters with acanthus capitals. Pediments. Ovolo stringcourse at first- floor level runs into the north and south returns. Shaped north and south main gables with internal stacks at apexes. 3 further ridge stacks. Recessed against north and south returns are 2-storey, single-window ranges with sashes as before; hipped roofs.
Internal porches each with 2 doors, of 3 panels and with 3 square stained glass upper lights. Rectangular leaded overlights with stained glass. Northern pair of doors with upper 2 panels glazed.
Rear elevation with mixed fenes1ration of 2/2 and 10/110 unhorned sashes under gauged skewback arches. 2 central doorways reached by steel staircases with balustrades. One doorway on first floor to north and south, also with steel staircase access.
