GV II*

Terrace of 5 houses, now offices. c1736, with mid C20 alterations. Built for Nicholas Broadbent. Brick with ashlar and brick dressings and slate roofs with 5 gable and single ridge stacks. EXTERIOR: plinth, coped gables, ramped coped parapets. 3 storeys; central block, 5 window range, flanked by 2 houses, each 3 window range. Windows have brick flat arches, those to No.22 rendered. Slightly projecting central block has first floor band and dentilled cornice, and raised central block to parapet. Central French window with engaged columns and dentilled open pediment, with French window and plain fanlight, fronted by a wrought-iron balcony. On either side, two 12 pane sashes. Above, central round-headed window with Gothic tracery, flanked by 2 top hung casements. Central replica doorcase in glass fibre, with Doric columns, cornice and panelled door with overlight. On either side, two 12 pane sashes. No.16, to right, has partly rebuilt front which has dentilled brick eaves. Three 12 pane sashes arranged 2:1, and above, similar fenestration with 9 pane sashes. Below, to left, plain doorway with panelled door and overlight, flanked to right by two 12 pane sashes. No.14, to right again, has partly rebuilt front with moulded first-floor band and larger dentilled cornice. Three 12 pane sashes and above, three 9 pane sashes. Below, to right, wooden doorcase with eared architrave and semi-pediment, with half-glazed door, flanked to left by two 12 pane sashes. Right return has to right a 10 pane glazing bar casement and below, to left, a 2 pane sash in wooden surround and to right, a blocked doorway with a 3-light window inserted. No.20, to left of centre, has painted eaves cornice. Three 12 pane sashes and above, two 9 pane sashes and a top hung casement. Doorcase to right with engaged columns and cornice, with panelled door and overlight, flanked to left by two 12 pane sashes. No.22, to left again, has dentilled brick eaves. Three 12 pane sashes and above, three 9 pane sashes. Thin central wooden doorcase with pediment and panelled door, flanked by single 12 pane sashes. INTERIOR not inspected.
