Staggered terrace of 7 houses c.1830/40s. Painted, stuccoed mass wall construction. Nos.2 and 6 have red ridge tiles; red brick chimney shafts with bands; old round and also tapering round chimney pots; cast iron rainwater goods.
Plan: prominently-sited on a steep hill rising from the Quay. Houses one-room wide, double depth. Some service blocks to rears. Rooms heated by axial chimney stacks.
Exterior: No.2 is 3 storeys, the remainder are 2 storeys plus basements. Boxed eaves cornice. Each house has an asymmetrical but regular 2-window front with front doors to the left except No 8 which is entered from Colleton Grove on the left return. Basement windows have iron grilles. Some doorcases with panelled reveals, 6 panel doors, top panels glazed at Nos. 3, 4 and rectangular overlights. Overlight at No.6 has 3 vertical glazing bars. Blind windows at first floor left of Nos.3, 4, 5 and 6. Mainly 12 pane hornless sash windows throughout. C20 flat roofed dormer window with small panes at No.8. Left return of No.8 has central door with 2 light small-pane casement at first floor and 3/6 pane hornless sash at attic level.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
This is a good group of modest early nineteenth-century houses, prominently - sited on a steep hill rising from the Quay.
