Hotel. Mid C17. 2-storey building with a dormer attic, raised
to present height c1890. C17 work of knapped flint, remainder
of brick with false timbering. Machine tile roofs. Probably
6-window range originally. Ground floor with a bay window to
left fitted with two 6/6 unhorned sashes. To right are two C17
window openings with painted chamfered jambs, now with two 6/6
unhorned sashes. Central revolving door to left of a blind
window, a bay window and a C20 door. First floor with a series
of chamfered window openings opened onto a late C19 enclosed
balcony under a sloping roof. Upper floors c1890:
half-timbered, central canted bay rising into a gable with one
smaller bay either side. Fenestration of 12/1 sashes. Gabled
roof. 3-storey brick rear block added 1972-3.
INTERIOR: cellar has plastered brick walls. Main front
ground-floor room with mid C18 large-framed panelling re-used
from elsewhere. Moulded boxes to bridging beams. Reeded early
C20 chimney-piece pilasters.
