No.4 Dry Dock
GV II
Dry dock. c1840, enlarged 1908. Granite and concrete. Stepped sides with flights of steps and haulage slides. Side of former entrance curved for lock gates, now closed by a C20 steel caisson. Forms one of a group of three C19 dry docks at the heart of the historic dockyard. The wider floor makes it particularly suitable for the servicing of merchant ships.
