SK5739NW CASTLE ROAD 646-1/20/139 (East side) 12/07/72 Severns' Building, The Lace Centre (Formerly Listed as: CASTLE ROAD Former Severns' Restaurant)

GV II

Front range of a house, now a lace shop. c1450, removed from Middle Pavement and re-erected here 1968 by FWB Charles. Timber-framed, with rendered nogging and plain tile roof. Coursed rubble plinth, jettied first floor on brackets. 2 storeys; 3 bays. Regular framing with arch braces and three 2-light windows with reconstructed wooden tracery. Ground floor has to left 3 windows with wooden mullions, and to right, 2 altered bays with mid rails. To right again, a Tudor arched plank door. Right return and rear have regular framing with mid rail. INTERIOR has a crown post roof with curved braces. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N: Nottinghamshire: London: 1979-: 236).
