Workshops, formerly part of the Royal Midland Institute for the Blind, now Womens' Centre. c1890, with addition c1910 by AN Bromley of Nottingham. Red brick, with ashlar and terracotta dressings and slate roofs. Coped gable and 2 coped ridge stacks. 2 storeys plus basement and attics; 7:4 windows. Windows are mainly casements with stone mullions and transoms. Main block, to left, Jacobean Revival style, has rock-faced stone basement, first floor band and eaves cornice. To left, a square tower porch, 3 stages, with a pyramidal spire. Round-arched entrance with double doors, and above. a canted oriel window, 4 lights. Above again, 2 round-arched blind openings divided by a pilaster. To right, 6 windows on each floor. Segment-arched basement openings, and 2 gabled dormers with finials. Addition, to right, in harmonising style and materials. To left, a slightly projecting entrance bay with coped gable and finial. Panelled double door with overlight and sidelights, in ashlar surround with pediment. Above, a 4-light window with stained glass, and over it, a smaller 4-light window. In the gable, a 3-light window. To right, 2 windows to ground floor and basement, then a round-arched cart entrance, 2 storeys, with voussoirs. Above, 3 windows and above them, 3 wooden gabled dormers.
