House and gatehouse. The house probably early C16, gatehouse dated 1620. Timber-framed with brick panel infill and plain tiled roofs. Original building to north: low 2 storeys, probably 2-unit plan. Framed in square panels with close studding in gable. Casement windows in gable and side walls. Axial stack. Later wing added at right-angles to this to the rear: probably early C17. Framed in small square panelling with decorative quatrefoil panels in gable, and two 4-light mullioned and transomed windows in rear wall. Entrance is in lean-to porch against the gable, probably added in the early C20. Gatehouse block adjoins the south-west corner of this range: dated 1620. Wide gateway with fluted Corinthian columns on high bases each side, and possibly the original gates. Single window above, and high gabled dormer over. Framed in decorative small square panels with cusped quatrefoils. 4-light mullioned and transomed window, with enriched paired round-arched panels below it, and enrichment surrounding dormer window above. Vine-scroll decoration to tie-beam and barge-boards. On the street side, two 3-light mullioned windows with paired round-arched enriched panels beneath, and 2 high dormer windows over. 3-light Gothick window inserted C19 alongside gateway. Gateway House listed 30.5.69.
