Includes: Nos.77-87 CLIFF ROAD. Offices and warehouses, now flats and offices. Late C18 and early and mid C19. Converted, restored, and attic storey added, 1990. Red brick, with ashlar dressings and artificial slate roofs. Plinth, moulded cornice, brick parapet. The buildings rise from Cliff Road, backing onto a sandstone cliff containing caves. EXTERIOR: north front, to Commerce Square, 3 storeys; 14 window range, arranged 7:4:3. Windows are renewed 12-pane glazing bar sashes with brick flat arches. Doorways have brick round arches with replica 4-panel double doors and fanlights. Recessed centre, 4 windows, has to right a doorway. West block, 3 windows, has a single bay left return with a doorway. East block, 7 windows, has 2 doorways. Rear elevation, to Cliff Road, 3 builds. 8 storeys; 14 window range. Rendered basement with 8 C20 openings, fourth floor sill band and moulded cornice. Upper floors have regular fenestration arranged 3:4:4:1:2. To right, beyond a glazed-in space, a slightly recessed block in the same style, 5 storeys; 4 x 4 windows. These blocks have a set back attic storey, 1990. To left, a set back block rising from the cliff, 5 storeys; 5 window range. Sill bands on the lower floors, eaves cornice and parapet. The upper part of this block forms the irregular west side of Commerce Square. INTERIOR: remodelled, has in the upper part of the east block a mid C19 stone cantilever winder stair with cast-iron balustrade. Caves at various levels are exposed in the glazed-in space between the blocks fronting Cliff Road. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N: Nottinghamshire: London: 1979-: 231).
