SK3386NE CLARKEHOUSE ROAD 784-1/27/189 (North West side) Nos.4-20 AND 20A (Even) and steps, walls and railings

GV II

9 houses, one of them divided, with steps and railings. c1845 with mid C19 and mid C20 alterations. Brick with ashlar dressings and slate roofs with 11 brick stacks. Plinth, wooden eaves gutter, single coped gable. 2 storeys; 14 window range. Windows have brick flat arches and corbelled sills. House to left, 2 windows, has a wooden cross casement to left and a 12 pane sash to right. Below, to left, a pilastered doorcase with cornice and 4-panel door with overlight. To its right, a small inserted plain sash and a larger plain sash. To right, the remaining houses are arranged as symmetrical 3-window compositions, the central first floor windows mainly being 2-light casements, the remainder plain sashes. Below, central paired doorcases with pilasters and cornices, flanked by single windows, mainly plain sashes. INTERIOR not inspected. Outside, each house has stone steps and landing with a brick retaining wall topped with a wrought-iron railing.
