Row of shops. Early C19 of 2 builds with various later shop
fronts. Deeply-coursed dressed sandstone with some limestone
to rear, Welsh slate roof.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 8-window range with broad wing to rear
left. Large quoins to left end, between bays 3 and 4 and above
adjacent premises at right end. Projecting stone sills to
plain window surrounds: bays 1-3, 7 and 8 have 8/8 sashes
beneath 4/8 sashes; bays 4-6 with C20 casements.
Shop fronts: Lady Fair has plate-glass shop fronts; ashlar
surround to doorway on right. Bakewell Fabric Shop:
part-glazed door under stone hood on shaped brackets; 9-pane
shop window on left, 8/8 sash to right with side-passage
doorway beyond.
Bakewell Factory Shop: central door flanked by plate-glass
windows in framed surround; side doorway on right converted to
a window. The row has moulded stone cornice to bays 6-8.
Hipped roof with 2 corniced ashlar ridge stacks to right;
ridge louvre and truncated stack on left.
Rear: corniced ashlar stack at junction of rear wing and main
roof; tall stair window with glazing bars.
INTERIOR: Lady Fair has original staircase with mahogany
handrail on square rods with turned newels.
Sylvia's: similar early C19 staircase aligned with rear wall.
