GV II
House. c1656, refronted and altered late C18-early C19, refaced. Limestone ashlar and rubble with left-hand and rear valley stack, with stone slate roof. 2-room plan with right-hand and rear parallel ranges. 2 storeys, cellar and attic; 3-window range. A symmetrical front has pilasters, cornice, and parapet with raised central section, coped gables with right-hand ball finial. Central doorway has a bracketed pediment and architrave to a 6-panel door, the top pair glazed. Plain ashlar surrounds with angle beads to paired outer and single central windows with late C19 plate-glass sashes with margin panes. 3 gabled dormers have 8-panes. The right-hand gable has a blocked ground-floor window, and blocked 3-light C17 attic window with chamfered surround and label mould, with a lead down pipe with original hopper to the front. The side wall behind is set in slightly, with a rear wide doorway and 6-panel door, and a 10/10-pane ground-floor sash. Rear extended early C20. INTERIOR: details include a flagged central hall, front rooms have moulded lateral beams, central early C18 rear dogleg stair with column-on-vase balusters and ramped rail. Front left-hand room has early C18 panelling, fireplace and overmantel, and a fine rear shell-head niche in a blocked window; right-hand room has fine and notable example of early faux panelling wallpaper. First-floor left-hand room has a good C17 scratch-moulded cupboard set in a blocked rear window; chamfered ceiling beams. Varied roof structure, with no ridge to the right-hand section, and threaded ridge to the centre; one arch brace visible in the wall. Early C19 stone fireplaces with hob grates.
