GV II
Caretaker's house and adjoining boundary wall at former board school (qv). 1903, with late C20 alterations. By Holmes & Watson. For the Sheffield Education Committee. Rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and slate roof with a ridge stack. Plinth, string courses, coped gables. 2 storeys; 3 window range. To left, a projecting gable with catslide roof to left. Small single light, and to left, a larger window with a detached pediment linked to the string course above. In the gable peak, a triple breather. Below, to right, a recessed half-glazed panelled door with moulded cornice and cartouche linked with string course. To right, a set back bay with a canted stone bay window with cornice and 2-light window with stone mullion, flanked by narrow round-arched lights. Right return gable has a 2-light window on a sillband. INTERIOR not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: outside, a short length of spiked railing on a chamfered plinth, linked to the boundary wall. To right, stone boundary wall with triangular coping, approx 100m long, with an off-centre pair of gate piers. (Researches by G Hague, Sheffield City Council).
