GV II*

Police station, now offices. 1905. Ashlar with ashlar dressings. Roof not visible. Baroque Revival style. Granite plinth, rusticated ground floor, first floor sill band, giant Doric angle pilasters to the upper floors, entablature topped by parapet. 3 storeys; 5 window range of plain sashes. Central round-arched granite doorcase with double doors, flanked by pairs of windows with tall projecting keystones. Above, 5 windows in moulded surrounds, with brackets supporting pediments filled with raised double keystones. Above again, five 16-pane sashes in moulded surrounds with corniced keystones. Angled end bays have a single window on each floor. To left, an elliptical arched carriage opening with voussoirs and cast-iron double gates, and above, a bridge to the adjoining Shire Hall (qv), with sill band and cornice, and a single window with brackets to a segmental cornice filled with a raised double keystone.
