5th July 1978 II*
House. 1774, by John Carr of York for Richard Green (information given with first listing). Double-depth plan with one canted bay at the front and two at the rear. Two storeys and 7 bays, symmetrical, with canted 3-bay centre; doorway, up 3 steps with iron railings and curtail, has moulded architrave and pediment on consoles; 1st-floor band; 12-pane sashed windows with moulded architraves, those at ground floor with a sill-band and moulded cornices and these above with balustraded aprons rising frail the band. Modillioned eaves cornice, hipped 2-span roof with chimneys on the real ridge and end-wall chimneys. Both return walls rendered, that on the left with a doorway. Rear elevation has flanking canted bays, 2 French windows in the centre, with square overlights, sashed windows without glazing bars at ground floor and 12-pane sashes above, with balustrades like those at the front.
Interior; central hall with open-well staircase (scrolled brackets, stick balusters) ; dining room has painted ceiling with naturalistic flowers, birds, etc, in late C18 style.
