6/185 No 56, with outbuildings and warehouse to rear GV II Shop,with storage rooms over and warehouse to rear. Early C19, probably incorporating C18 work, with later C19 additions to rear. Rendered sandstone; slate roof. Double-depth plan with lateral open-well stair (to right) and a mid-C19 refronting to frontage (left, adjoining no 55). 3 storeys. Exterior: the older 2-window front (to right) with end pilasters with composite capitals, moulded eaves cornice and sill bands to 1st and 2nd floor, the latter with decorative brackets; windows to upper floor (3 to 1st floor) with 12-pane sashes in reveals. Narrower 2-window range to left, no sill bands, sash windows in reveals with raised surrounds, one (to 2nd floor) blocked. Late C19 shop front extends across entire frontage with minimal decorations, all timber with plate- glass windows with glazing bars. Internally: considerably altered in late C19; stair with turned newels, most of the balusters now gone. Rear range (with cellars) has suspended timber-framed storerooms. Warehouse to rear, reduced in height, timber floors and slender iron columns of round section.
