Details
WHALTON WHALTON VILLAGE NZ 1281 (South side) 11/185 South Side, No. 4 (The Cottage) GV II
House, dated 1715 with initials G M on lintel, remodelled and heightened in early C19. Rubble with large roughly-shaped quoins and cut dressings, C19 heightening in squared stone; Scottish slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 irregular bays. Right of centre boarded door with oval glazed panel in chamfered block surround, within C20 open porch. Renewed 12-pane sash windows, the lower in enlarged original openings. Left gable with coping returned on deep footstones and large rendered stack.
Interior: firehood bressumer at east ends with probable salt box recess in rear wall. Old transverse ceiling beams. Walls 0.70 metre thick.
