Lodge at the entrance to a former country house, called Foxbush, now Sackville
School. Probably 1866, contemporary with the house and designed by its
architect, G. Somers Clarke. Flemish bond brick with blue diapering, tile-
hung gables with bands of scalloped tiles; peg-tile roof; brick stack.
Vernacular Revival style.
Plan: Sited at the main entrance to Sackville School, overlooking the drive.
Overall L plan with a porch filling the angle between the 2 blocks; stack at
the junction between the 2 blocks.
Exterior: Single storey and attic. Gabled roof; stack with impressive row of
tall shafts with corbelled brick cornices. Asymmetrical 2-window north east
front, overlooking London Road, with a jettied gable to the left with a
pendant, a 5-light attic window and 1 1-light and 1 2-light ground floor
casement, the 2-light window with a chamfered stone mullion. To the right the
pyramidal porch roof is supported on brackets on timber posts, with moulded
capitals. Plank front door with strap hinges. The right return gable is
coved out, the coving with painted decoration, with a transomed 4-light bay
window to the ground floor. The attic storey of the rear elevation is jettied
and tile-hung. One first and one ground floor 3-light window, the ground
floor window with a high transom.
Interior: Not inspected.
A nicely-detailed building Group Value with Sackville School and listed
buildings on the London Road.
