Cartshed. Probably late C18, re-erected following collapse during the 1987
October storm. Framed construction, clad in weatherboarding; peg-tile roof.
Plan: South facing and sited north west of a pond which is said to have been
used for cleaning carts. Small, rectangular, open-fronted 4-bay plan.
Exeterior: Single-storey with provision for a loft if required. Symmetrical
south front, the roof half-hipped at ends. Jowled posts on padstones form the
bays, with straight braces to the wall plate from the posts. On the left
return a loft door with strap hinges.
Interior. Tie-beam trusses with queen posts and clasped purlins, no ridge
piece. Each truss has short, curved, arched braces. Some timbers have been
renewed in the course of re-erection. The wall framing is of slender
scantling. There is no loft floor but the tie-beams could be used to store
implements and temporary joists could be provided for hay storage when
required.
An attractive small vernacular farmbuilding of the region. Group value with
Lower Street Farmhouse and other listed farmbuildings on the farmstead.
