Stone abutments of original drawbridge remain at east entrance. Remains of
late C12 gatehouse, 2 towers with semi circular fronts. To south west of
gatehouse the remains of bakehouse with hearths and ovens. Remains of Keep
still standing, a range of buildings round an inner court. To the south of
south west Postern gate remains a massive battered base to tower. To the
south east one surviving wall with stone bench of the C13 Hall. Best preserved
section of curtain wall by the Postern gate and Hall. Another range on south
east. Norman masonry 12 ft thick, the walkway survives. Only outlines of
the foundations of the Cathedral remain. The undercroft of the Chapter House
is preserved. AM.
