Details
LOVINGTON CP ST53SE LOVINGTON VILLAGE 1/52 Charity Farmhouse and gateway adjoining 24.3.61 GV II Detached farmhouse. C17 and later. Local lias stone cut and squared, Doulting stone dressings; steep pitched Welsh slate roof between coped gables; brick end and intermediate chimney stacks. Two storeys, 4 bays. Plinth, band course; 2-light mullioned windows in plain surrounds with architraves, but single light windows to both levels bay 3; between bays 1 and 2 a C20 lean-to porch with glazed door. Attached to north-east corner a gateway with a pair of ashlar gatepiers having plinths, plain shafts with rebate for gates, cornice tops with steps and necked bases, but urn or ball finials missing. Interior not seen, but report speaks of former 3 room plan with cross passage: chamfered beams with stop and runouts and also scroll stops; fireplace with oven in north gable, and central small fireplace over which is a wood panel with a painted view of the house in the C18; moulded plasterwork to beams of south room: the house apparently had a formal garden unlike a farmhouse if the painting is credible.
