No 2, Gardener's Cottage about 350m SE of Shadwell Park
GV II
Gardener's bothy. Circa 1840. Possibly by Edward Blore. Plastered clay lump. Thatched roof (roof destroyed by fire) with gabled ends. Gault brick stacks with chamfered shafts and moulded caps and bases, the bases with arms. Tudor style. Plan: L-shaped on plan with principal room in each wing and kitchen in the angle. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical elevations with gabled wing to left or right. 1, 2 and 3-light windows with 4-centred arch lights with metal lattice casements. On the south gable a canted wooden oriel on large brackets with similar lattice casements. In the SW angle a C20 wooden boarded porch with a corrugated iron sheet roof and on east side an outshut with a C20 wooden porch in the angle.
Interior: Most of the original joinery survives on the ground floor including panelled doors, architraves and cupboards and in the NW room a carved wooden chimney piece. Roof structure destroyed.
