2. C1860. Built as a picturesque gatehouse to the Hurst-en-Cleys Estate for Charles Chevall Tooke Esq. The Gatehouse is of 2 storeys, Ground floor sandstone, 1st floor tile hung and with stone slab roof. 1 triple-mullioned window with leaded lights. Right hand doorcase with studded door and elliptical fanlight. Attached to the left is a 3-storey stone circular turret derived from central European Mediaeval castle origins with conical tiled roof incorporating dovecote in upper storey. 4 gabled projections with dove holes and several other holes further down. Pseudo-Machicolations. Slit windows to 1st floor. Nos 1 and 2 Dovecotes are of 2 storeys sandstone with tiled roof and large brick chimney stack. 2 mullioned windows. Penticed extension to right hand side and doorcase with cambered head.
