2/35 Disused bridge at Two Bridges
II
Road bridge over Penpont Water, a tributary of the River Inny and over the flood
plain to the north. Probably C18 partly rebuilt in the C19. Stone rubble with
granite dressings. The bridge appears to have been partly rebuilt and has a C19
dressed granite rounded arch with flat string band above. The stone rubble parapets
have granite coping and are splayed over the abutments terminating in granite piers
with domed caps. The bridge continues over the flood plain on the north and may also
be approached from the field to the east, where a ramp leads up to join the road
surface of the bridge.
The bridge is close to the confluence of Penpont Water and the River Inny and
probably once extended to the north, to cross the River Inny. The widening and
diverting of the A30 and the building of two C20 bridges over the two rivers has now
rendered this bridge redundant for traffic. However, it is now used as a depot for
road surfacing material by Cornwall County Council.
