Details
LEWANNICK SX 28 SE 2/50 Lewannick House GV II
the entry shall be amended to read:- SX 28 SE LEWANNICK 2/50 Lewannick Manor
------------------------------------
LEWANNICK SX 28 SE 2/50 Lewannick House GV II Rectory, now private house. Probably early C19 with earlier origins, extended in the mid C19 and late C19. Stone rubble. Slate roof with hipped ends. Brick shafts to the axial and end stacks. Plan: Original plan uncertain. The house is of roughly overall 'L' shaped plan with the earlier range on left. It is possible that the earlier house had a front range of 2-room and cross or through passage plan, the right hand room heated by an end stack and the left hand room by an axial stack. The kitchen wing to rear left is also probably part of the earlier house. In the circa mid C19 the house was partly remodelled, the entrance moved to the right, entering the earlier right hand room and the earlier passage and right hand room were remodelled to form an entrance hall and a wide stair hall. A large, grand reception room was added to the right, heated by the earlier end stack used by the right hand room. Probably slightly later a second range was added to the rear of the entrance hall and rear left of the mid C19 extension. The house contains two early C18 sash windows and at least one C18 door suggesting that there was probably a house on the site prior to the C19. Exterior: Two storeys and cellar. Asymmetrical 3:2 window front. C19 porch with flat roof with round arched openings in front and side walls and with fanlight above the inner C19 door. C19 16-pane sash to left in putative earlier entrance and C19 16-pane sash beyond. Three C19 16-pane sashes on first floor. To right the taller circa mid C19 extension which has tall C19 12-pane sashes on the ground and first floor. The left hand side elevation has an almost symmetrical 3-window front with C19 sashes. 20-pane sash to left with 16-pane sash in centre and to right. Three 12- pane sashes on first floor. To the rear of this elevation are two early C18 12-pane sashes with heavy glazing bars. Interior: Complete with unaltered joinery and carpentry details. Mid C19 stair. The circa mid C19 reception room added on the right has an ornate plaster cornice of fine quality. Lewannick House remains unaltered and unspoilt, retaining fixtures and fittings of the C19.
